Why would I fan someone?
Fanning a wrestler causes some of their activity to appear in your newsfeed, so you can stay in touch with what they're up to. You might want to fan other wrestlers that you competed against, or friends that play the game. If you fan someone, that also increases the chances that they'll fan you back.
Why do I need fans?
The more fans you have, the more valuable you are to the companies in the game. Companies are paid by the number of fans their members have. If you have more fans, you'll get a better contract from the companies that you join.
